Spook Wood hunting, and how to spot Sinister

Spook and Sinister are rare October trees with random locations. Search above ground; there is no permanent spawn to drive to.

Spook Wood is also called Spooky Wood. Bring a Haunted Hatchet for the dense trunks and plan a way to get the wood back before climbing to it. An expensive axe cannot guarantee a find.

Spook / Spooky

Smooth black bark with a brown, granite-textured interior. Twisted branches and unusual shapes are common; a tiny black sapling can be easy to miss.

Sinister

Granite-textured black bark with a neon interior. In darkness, its outline can look much like Spook. Check the texture in better light instead of relying on the silhouette.

Sinister can replace a Spook spawn at a one-in-a-hundred chance. That is a chance within the spawning process, not a promise of one Sinister every hundred servers you join.

A hunt you can actually bring home

  1. Scan from a useful viewpoint. Look over open terrain and ledges from high ground. A tall tower gives a wider view, but fog can make a distant outline useless.
  2. Check above ground. Search the surface regions on the map. Underground routes such as the Maze and Lone Cave are not normal Spook spawning areas.
  3. Make an access plan. A long plank can help reach a ledge. Think about where a cut branch will fall and where the truck can wait; a tree beyond your reach is not a completed haul.
  4. Cut and load manageable sections. Dense, awkwardly shaped pieces make the return difficult. Leave vehicle room for the wood rather than filling the truck with unnecessary gear.

Why a fresh server may look empty

Spawning runs on a server timer, with an initial stagger. A new server does not mean a new rare tree waiting at spawn. The stagger varies, so neither restarting nor a countdown from an old guide guarantees a tree at a particular moment.

If your aim is steady wood income, a repeatable Frost Wood run is a different goal from hunting a seasonal collectible. Keep a find for building or agree on a player trade; selling to the drop-off uses the rates above. The wood value calculator compares equal-volume pieces and subtracts the expenses you enter.

Before leaving, use the saving guide to check the right slot. Compare truck capacity and cost and mill size for the pieces you plan to keep.
