How to get Frost Wood

Blow open the Taiga, then drive up to Taiga Peak.

Frost Wood grows in one place: Taiga Peak, at the top of the Taiga’s mountain path. You need a stick of dynamite ($220 at Bob’s Shack) to clear the boulders into the Taiga. A plank sells for $106 a unit, the second most valuable wood in the game after Phantom Wood.

The route

  1. Cross the bridge ($100) and drive to Bob’s Shack in the Safari for dynamite.
  2. Drive back to the Taiga entrance, set the dynamite in the middle of the boulders, light it and get well clear. The boulders grow back over time, so a long trip may need a second stick to get out.
  3. Follow the road into the Taiga until you find the narrow path winding up the mountain.
  4. Drive up it carefully. A small truck like the Utility Vehicle is much easier on the bends; a big truck can make it with care. Snow on the path can hide drops.

Getting the wood down

Do not drive the logs down the path. At the peak there is a slippery, ramp-like cliff: cut the trees and push the wood off it, and it slides down to land near the Winter Cabin at the foot of the mountain. Then drive your truck down, load the wood at the bottom and head home. Bigger pieces mean fewer stops to reload.

Frost Wood planks are slippery: anything placed on them slides, and they keep that once built into a blueprint, which is why players build slides out of it.

Which axe

Every axe cuts Frost Wood except the Candy Cane Axe. The fastest is the Frost Axe, from a Christmas gift, at 19.35 damage per second on Frost Wood against 0.9 on the other woods it cuts. Without one, the best general axe you have will do; the axe table ranks them.

Is it worth the trip?

A Frost plank is worth about 11 times an Oak plank, and the trees grow back in about 6 minutes. Run it through a sawmill before you sell: a Frost log is only worth $9. Only Phantom Wood pays more per plank, and that needs an ostrich eye and an End Times Axe.
